5 tips to Glow up and not break the bank
Now that you’ve gotten the ball rolling, it is best to begin setting a glow-up budget. Though this journey is supposed to focus on elevation, you must remember that your glow-up should have long-term sustainability, which means the focus is on quality vs. quantity. Follow these five tips to avoid overspending.
1. Avoid Buying Trendy Clothes
Though tempting, do not run to the mall and buy the first piece of clothing you see! Instead, rotate your closet, pull all the clothes that you have for the current season to the center of your view, and complete a wardrobe analysis. Decide what to keep, toss, and donate. Next, go on Pinterest and search for outfits that have pieces similar to the ones that you currently own! From here, you will know how you want to develop your style and see which essential pieces are needed to achieve that goal. (see future post on forming a new wardrobe). When shopping, pick pieces that are timeless, durable, and made of quality materials. You will feel so much relief next year when you save money because your pieces are still in fashion and good condition. Tip: You also find great deals if you shop off-season!
2. Buy Mini Sized Bottles
Despite what the TikTok beauty influencers say about a product, everyone’s skin will not react the same! For example, Baby Lips by Maybelline made my lips break out! This is because people have different skin sensitivities and allergies. When trying new beauty and skin care products for the first time purchase the travel size! They are much cheaper and will be less wasted if the product does not work out. You might even find that the travel size lasts way longer than expected. I usually do not buy full-sized mascara because I never finish them in 6 months (at which they expire).
3. Utilize Free Trials for WorkOuts
A fun way to add to your glow-up is to spice up your fitness routine. Before going out and signing up for studio classes, utilize the different free trials in your area. Then decide what you love the most! These free trials will open doors to trying new things and meeting new people while maintaining the flexibility to decide what to commit to long term.
4. Download Groupon
Many glow-up videos show women getting laser hair removal, waxes, facials, manicures, etc. These beauty rituals can be overwhelming and expensive. These rituals are not required to elevate yourself, and the results will look different for everyone. If you do want to explore, Groupon is free to join. It offers coupons to allow you to try these services for a lower price without committing to a monthly service subscription (ie wax passes)! Fun fact: my first wax was with a 50% off coupon from Groupon!
5. Reflect and Budget Accordingly
Once you have exhausted these tips, sit down and crunch your numbers! Write down your monthly expenses and decide how much money you want to allot to your glow-up. Ask yourself, which of the things you tried you want to keep and invest in? Begin to incorporate these aspects into your monthly budget and self-care routine. The trick to glowing up is consistency!
Despite what social media may say, there is no rush to glow up. It will be a process that takes time, trial, and error. Do not let peer pressure, trends, and social media make you believe that breaking the bank is necessary! With proper budgeting, you can obtain your goals, experience life, and remain financially stable! Feel free to repeat these tips at any point in your glow-up journey when you feel a change is needed.
