About

The roaring 20s. It is the time in every lady’s life when they begin to step into their true power to unleash their “hottest,” “finest,” and “freshest” selves. The time when long summer nights are full of dancing and laughter. But, why didn’t anyone tell me the cold hard truth? Your 20s are NOT like the Lana Del Rey “Born to Die” album. I am only 24 and have to admit that for the first 4 years, I was a HOT MESS.

I am Alyssa Rideau, a young woman navigating adulthood on the West Coast. I spent the first half of my life in my awkward caterpillar phase which included the Dynamic Duo: acne and braces, and their sidekick unmanaged 4c hair. Don’t get me wrong 4c hair is beautiful, but at 19 years old, I had no clue or desire to take care of it, so my hair was full of mini balls of lint (please see images below). I had no sense of self. I desperately wanted everyone to love me and accept me, but had no desire to love and accept myself to the point where I found myself on the phone with a man for two hours begging him not to break up with me. It was hard to truly reflect and work on myself when 95% of my time was spent in nursing school, learning how to save the lives of others without saving my own first. Gratefully, after graduation, I woke up one day, looked in the mirror, and decided to treat myself better. I decided to go on a journey to unlock my inner Scarlett O’Hara and become beautiful, fierce, and powerful. Thus my glow-up journey had begun.

“Baddies and Books” Was created to offer a Safe, vulnerable space to Seek guidance for your own glow up journey. The lay out of the blog is designed you allow you to focus on one aspect of your glow up at a time. I encourage you to leave comments, ask questions, and leave advice as well.

If you are new here or want to glow up, I highly recommend that you continue to follow my blog!

Cheers!
